About this role

Industrial Sewing Machine Operator – Technical Textiles
Division: Landes, Inc. (Contract Sewing) · Location: Houston, TX · Type: Full-time, on-site
Pay: $[]–$[]/hr, depending on experience · Schedule: Mon–Fri, [] a.m.–[] p.m.

About the role
Landes has been manufacturing in Houston since 1971. We're opening a new production space next to our main building to make heavy-duty protective covers for an industrial customer. We need an experienced sewer to help launch the line. You'll sew large technical-fabric panels into finished covers on a walking-foot machine, from training and first samples through full production runs.

What you'll do

Sew large fabric panels (up to about 7 ft × 5 ft) into finished covers and bags, following drawings and templates
Run a heavy-duty compound-feed (walking-foot) industrial machine
Sew wide 3" hems, corner seams, and hook-and-loop (Velcro) strips to exact placement
Check your own work against measurements and templates, and keep simple lot and quality records
Change needles, clean the machine, and keep your station in order
Fold, bag, and label finished pieces for shipment

What we're looking for

2+ years on industrial sewing machines. Walking-foot, upholstery, canvas, tarp, marine, awning, or bag experience is a strong plus
Able to handle heavy, bulky material and keep long seams straight
Able to read a tape measure and follow a written spec or drawing
Careful and consistent. This customer inspects every lot
Able to stand or sit for long periods and lift up to 25 lb
Willing to wear the protective equipment provided (safety glasses, gloves, long sleeves)

Good to know
The fabric is a high-temperature fiberglass cloth. It's safe to work with using the gear we provide, but it can irritate the skin, so the work is done in a dedicated room with its own cleaning procedures. We provide all protective equipment and train you on it.

Why Landes

A family-owned Houston manufacturer with more than 50 years in business
The chance to help start a new production line from day one
Paid training in November, with production starting early 2027
[Benefits: PTO / holidays / health, etc.]
